Entering a new market
The decision to enter another country is made once and is hard to undo. This work is meant to back it with numbers, not nerve.
When you need this
- You have hit a ceiling at home and growth has to come from elsewhere.
- Somebody offered you work abroad and you do not know whether it is the start of a market or a one-off.
- You have two or three countries in mind and need to choose between them.
- Management disagrees and there is no document to argue over.
What you get
- A list of countries ranked by where entry has the best ratio of opportunity to cost.
- For every country considered, the reason for yes or no — not just a score.
- The countries ruled out, and what ruled them out. Often more useful than the ones selected.
- An estimate of what entry involves: who has to be there, what is needed and when it pays back.
How it runs
- 01
Narrowing
We start from every country in scope and rule out those with a hard blocker — sanctions, regulation, an outright bar. This step is usually quick and saves most of the work.
- 02
Comparison
The rest are measured against several criteria at once: market size, competition, cost of entry, proximity to what you already do. The weights are agreed with you, not decided for you.
- 03
Recommendation
For each remaining country we write whether to go and how — and where we are unsure. Where an answer would be a guess, there is a question instead of a recommendation.
Where we have actually worked
It is easy to talk about the V4 markets. Here is what is behind it — and above all the difference between a country where we delivered work and one we only did the numbers on.
- Work delivered here
Czechia
Home. The registered office, the clients and the daily work. Websites, demand systems, commercial and operational consulting — from a sole trader to a company with its own sales team.
- Work delivered here
Slovakia
Van operations run together with Czechia and the work with carriers. Plus a proposal for a Bratislava e-shop, written in English from the start.
- Work delivered here
Hungary
Work for the group’s Hungarian arm on the ground in Budapest: mapping operations and damage handling and comparing it with Czechia and Slovakia. Plus a three-month project for MOL petrol stations.
- Analysed, not delivered
Poland
The Polish market is part of the Asahi project, which compared all four V4 markets. That means we have done the numbers on it — not that we delivered work there. We are not blurring that difference.
Where we have done it
For ATRAK a.s. of the CSG Aerospace group we produced a ninety-page expansion strategy: a seven-person international team, an interview with the company's CEO, 34 countries ruled out over sanctions, the rest compared on six measures, and an entry call for every one of them. Plus a V4 markets project for Asahi and an internship in Budapest comparing operational procedures across Hungary, Czechia and Slovakia.
Scope-based. After an initial call you get a fixed price and a deadline in the contract.
